Ludogorets 1 CSKA Sofia 0 Bulgarian Cup Final 2025

League champions Ludogorets completed the domestic double after a costly error by CSKA captain Thibaut Vion gave them the victory.

The CSKA fans formed the vast majority in the stadium but their spectacular performance in the stands was not matched on the field by their heroes.

Leaving aside the thunderous noise and awesome tifo, what happened on the pitch always seemed to favour the team from Razgrad.

With both teams having a wide range of nationalities, the men in green had that extra quality in the likes of Brazilian Vidal and Africans’ Camara and Verdon.

Although CSKA certainly had their share of possession, it was Ludogorets who usually offered the more potent threat.

Despite CSKA having a half chance in the first ten minutes, the match would turn just after the half hour when French defender Vion left a backpass short and Vidal pounced to shoot past Lapoukhov for 1-0.

In a game that did see a few errors that was the one that decided the outcome.

A Cameroonian with a famous name, James Eto’o, did produce some dangerous efforts, including one from a corner that was well blocked.

However he was often outshone in midfield by Guinea’s Camara backed up by Deroy Duarte from Cape Verde.

And another African, the 1.9m Olivier Verdon (Benin) was part of the solid Ludo defence.

While it was 1-0 there was always a chance for the men in white, who brought on Bytyqi and Phaeton, however it was the opposition who went close to getting a second.

After Chochev, the highly rated Duah, and Vidal all might have converted chances later in the second period.

CSKA did press near the conclusion and sub.Chorbadzhiyski tested goalie Padt with one of the best efforts.

But it was too little and too late and ultimately the extra Ludogorets quality did prevail albeit after they were gifted the only goal.

The fans from the capital certainly won off the field but on it the league champions could celebrate the Double, and indeed having another shot at the Champions League.
