At this time of year the weather in the south of Finland is very pleasant and games are often played in warm, sunny conditions.
And this was certainly the case in Seinajoki where the home side eventually ran out easy winners against their local rivals from Vaasa.
Two players scored doubles - Cape Verde defender Kelvin Pires and Nicaraguan striker Jaime Moreno.
We watched a first half that swung both ways with SJK hitting the woodwork and VPS forcing saves from the home goalie before the tall Kelvin Pires rose to head in from a corner.
Though the Cape Verdean did have a mixed first period as he also fouled an opponent in the area to give the visitors the chance to reply. Which defender Haukioja did by thumping in the resultant spot kick.
But, late in the 45, Pires repeated his trick of heading in from a corner to make it 2-1 at the interval.
The second half was far less even.
As SJK were given significant help by VPS defensive lapses that allowed Moreno to convert his double. Followed by a clincher from Karjalainen after sub. Ndiaye (Senegal) rose to win a header.
Ultimately it was comfortable for the hosts with Argentinian Gasc showing some playmaker skills at times.
And it is worth noting that SJK are now coached by Stevie Grieve (Scotland) who has progressed from scouting for St Johnstone and Forest Green to leading a top level Finnish club.
