This Group C encounter in the Nations League ended in a damaging loss for Armenia, who like Romania had been demoted from Group B.
The result, matching their 2-0 win in Skopje, gives Bobi Milevski’s side total control of Group C4 and leaves Armenia to battle it out with Latvia and the Faroes in the playoffs.
Second half strikes from Isnik Alimi and, more controversially, from striker Miovski decided the outcome.
Armenia probably edged the first period of this tight contest and should have led when they missed a headed chance late on.
Prior to that danger man Eduard Spertsian produced a neat combination before spooning his shot well over the bar.
Spurred on by the home crowd, the Armenians did develop pressure without really getting close enough to score.
While the North Macedonians had the ball in the net only for the ‘goal’ to be disallowed, albeit after a lengthy VAR delay.
What was maintained in the second half was the continued strength of the away defence and, latterly, the increasing influence of their captain Enis Bardhi.
But the key moment came on 72 minutes when English referee Stuart Attwell allowed play to continue with a home player down injured during which time Miovski was set up to drive in the opener.
Needless to say the home fans were not happy.
And they would make for the exits before the end when key men Bardhi and Elmas created the clincher for Alimi.
Ultimately the visitors had taken their chances and with a well organised defence, and some strategic time wasting, got the job done.
