13-9-22 Bayern Munich 2 Barcelona 0 UEFA Champions League

Bayern scored two goals early in the second half to win this matchday 2 encounter.

That was after Barcelona had missed a number of first-period chances, a situation they came to regret.

Particularly the returning Robert Lewandowski who was responsible for most of the failed opportunities.

In a group that features a heavyweight battle between Bayern Barcelona and Inter for the two knockout places, this looked like a missed opportunity for the Catalans.

They controlled most of the first half and created a number of chances.

And it was the returning Robert Lewandowski, a legendary goalscorer for the Bavarians, who mostly couldn't convert.

Bayern even committed some risky errors that should have been punished.

Lewandowski had shots blocked (memorably by Upamecano) and perhaps his best was lifted over the bar, to the surprise of many.

With the precocious Pedri often pulling the strings Barca would live to regret these failures.

Meanwhile, the home side survived.

Though they had sometimes looked dangerous when the lightning-quick Alphonso Davies made forward breaks.

However, the interval brought a change.

Maybe Julian Nagelsmann's team talk got Bayern stirred up and perhaps Xavi could only indicate more of the same (but with goals)

It was the Bavarians who transformed the encounter firstly when Hernandez glanced in from a corner.

Followed by Leroy Sane being put through the centre of the opposition defence to chip in a second.

Sane would later get replaced, to his apparent annoyance, as well as the usual string of changes.

These alterations served to help Bayern in breaking up the play and to maintain their advantage.

Though the excellent Pedri did come close to a reply after a one-two left him with Neuer to beat, only for him to clip the post.

Urged on by a vocal 75,000 crowd Bayern had stepped up after a moderate first half to secure their second victory in Group C.

While Xavi's team can look back on those misses knowing that Lewandowski will surely deliver in the future.
